David Beckham injured as LA Galaxy lose in MLS play-off

David Beckham played through an injury as his Los Angeles Galaxy side lost 3-0 to Dallas in their Major League Soccer Western Conference championship game.

The England midfielder, who recently returned from an Achilles tendon problem, strained his groin early in the game, but played all 90 minutes.

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said: "We saw 15 minutes in that he had a problem and talked at half-time but he stayed in."

Dallas will play Colorado, who beat San Jose 1-0, in MLS's championship final.

Galaxy had several chances early on but their former goalkeeper Kevin Hartman was in inspired form for the Texan side.

He saved Mike Magee's 30-yard shot with his left hand before blocking Juninho's 15-yard blistering drive in the 21st minute.

Two minutes later he leapt to tip Beckham's bouncing 50-yard free kick away from the top right corner.

It was the fourth time in the last five games that former England captain Beckham, 35, lasted the full match on his return from the Achilles tendon injury he suffered in March while playing on loan for Italian side AC Milan.

"He has been playing through a lot of pain in the last few weeks, more than you know," stated Beckham's team-mate Landon Donovan.

"When you come back that quickly at that age from an Achilles tendon injury, there are going to be residual effects."

Colombian midfielder David Ferreira scored the opener for Dallas with a strike from the edge of the box.

After the break, George John doubled the lead, converting Brek Shea's cross from the left from three yards out and Honduran international Marvin Chavez slotted in the third after being played through by Ferreira.
