A second woman has died 18 days after a crush at a Northampton nightclub.

Laurene Danielle Jackson, 19, a student from Wembley, north-west London, was taken to hospital after the crush on 19 October at the Lava Ignite club and died on Sunday.

Nabila Nanfuka, 22, of Neasden, north-west London, died in hospital just after the crush.

Witnesses described club-goers rushing to the exits after an announcement that coaches were leaving to take them home.

The club closed after Luminar, which ran the venue, went into administration.

Students from Northamptonshire and the surrounding counties had travelled to the event, called DNA Presents Wickedest Wickedest, at the 1,600-capacity venue.

An inquest heard how Miss Nanfuka suffered "traumatic crush asphyxiation" at the club as people rushed for the exits.
'Stamped on'

Abigail Atakora, 21, also from London, was caught in the crush and said she remembered being stamped on, and then woke up in hospital.

She told BBC Look East: "I think people stamped on my front and also on my back.

"It could have been me who died - I am one of the lucky ones.

"I've been to nights like that before but this was just crazy - I don't think I will go ever again."

The University of Kent student is now recovering at home. Six other people were injured.

Northampton Borough Councillor David Mackintosh said following the death of Miss Jackson: "It's terrible that a young woman with her whole life ahead of her should die in this way. My heart goes out to her family.

"We will continue to support Northamptonshire Police as they investigate the circumstances that have led now to two tragic deaths."

A member of the event's promotions team has been arrested by police on suspicion of a public order offence.

Lava Ignite had its licence suspended by the council before the announcement last week that the club and 10 others across the UK were to close.
